INFORMATION FROM SYLVIA:
If you are a teacher I highly recommend you to join to add deep insight to how to adjust in a very subtle and therapeutic way. If you are a student I highly recommend you to join to add new insight to how to approach your practice with a greater understanding and depth.
The first time I went to an adjustment workshop with Guy in 2012 my mind was blown away and I suddenly realised how precious work a teacher have towards his/hers students. He made my mind go beyond my ideas as he led us through observation and analysis of giving and receiving adjustment.
He showed me and had me understand that all adjustments can be therapeutic. His knowledge when it comes to philosophy, pranayama, pratyahara and meditation is outstanding and it is a delight to learn from. It will be an honour to have him join us in Tønsberg.
INFORMATION FROM GUY:
“Anyone can practice Ashtanga Yoga – except lazy people.” – KP Jois
Pattabhi Jois’ teacher, T Krishnamacharya, advised that yoga should be adapted to the individual and not the other way around. Although many people think that Ashtanga Yoga should only be practiced one way, Pattabhi Jois originally taught each student individually – it was only once the method became so popular, that a standard form of practice seemed to evolve.
But there are some important principles that lie at the heart of any yoga practice. For instance, it was Krishnamacharya’s view that asana should always be practiced with vinyasa – that is, breath synchronised movement that helps the student transition in and out of the asana and links postures together in sequence.
Breathing is at the heart of yoga, but how should you breathe? Is it the same for everyone? A posture is to put the body into a certain shape – one example is Triangle Pose – Trikonasana – should everyone look the same in that posture? There are sequences, such as Primary Series, Intermediate etc. – should everyone follow the sequence exactly, or should there be variations depending on the individual?
The answers to all these questions is that every practice is unique, every body has different needs and abilities and yoga teaching should honour this. This principle is at the heart of traditional ashtanga practice.

About the Asana Practice and Workshops:
In these workshops we will aim to establish a deeper understanding of the essential components of Ashtanga Practice and then learn how to adapt these to the individual through observation, analysis and giving and receiving adjustments.
The day starts with Mysore practice. After a short break we will then look at individual postures, speak about vinyasa, breathing and alignment principles as they apply to different body types, different levels of practice, flexibility and injury. Then we will explore these ideas through adjusting each other in the postures.
Ashtanga Evolution – How to Deepen, Expand and Evolve Your Yoga Beyond Asana Practice:
The physical practice of asanas or postures is just the first step on the ashtanga ladder which is a system of eight interconnected practices. In this session we will explore the Ashtanga system in depth and introduce the steps that evolve beyond the physical practice – with a special focus on pranayama, pratyahara and meditation.
We will also explore the meaning and purpose of yoga. Without an understanding of the target, our practice will have less impact. In fact, our practice can lead us in a completely wrong direction and end up causing us more pain and stress. It is therefore equally important to know where we are going (our goal) and how to get there (practice method).
This session will start with a talk followed by Q&A and pranayama, pratyahara and meditation practice.
